We had a wall at the top of our stairs taken down and a railing put in its place which meant replacing some of the hardwood flooring and some painting. We also had crown molding installed in a bedroom.
Finish carpentry and built-ins, fitted like furniture
Stairs and railings, wainscoting, mantels, window seats and built-ins that look like they were always part of the house.
Carpentry & Built-Ins on Cape Cod, done the Fornalski way

Finish carpentry is our trade. Before Fornalski was a company, it was two brothers doing exactly this work: tight miters, straight lines, clean reveals and pieces scribed to walls that stopped being square decades ago. It is the difference you notice up close, every single day you live with it.
We build custom bookcases and closets, stair systems and railings, fireplace mantels, wainscoting and crown molding, and the small repairs other contractors do not want, like a rotted stair or a door that never closed right. If it is made of wood and has to fit perfectly, it is our kind of job.
Production carpentry aims for close enough. Finish carpentry aims for exact, and old Cape homes make you earn it, because almost nothing in them is square, level or plumb. We scribe every panel to the wall it lives on, so built-ins look original to the house instead of bought from a catalog.
