Kitchen Backsplash across our service area, done the Fornalski way

Isometric illustration of kitchen backsplash work on a Cape Cod home

A backsplash is the most visible tile in the house. It sits at eye level, right behind the range and the sink, and every crooked line, heavy grout joint or sliver of tile at the end of a run stays in plain sight every day. That is why we treat it as a layout job before it is a tile job.

We center the pattern on the range or the window, plan where the cuts will land, work around outlets and switches so the covers sit flat, and decide with you exactly where the tile stops: under the cabinets, at the window casing or all the way up behind the hood. Subway, herringbone, glass mosaics and natural stone are all fair game.

The edges are where a backsplash shows its quality. We finish exposed ends with trim pieces instead of raw cut edges, keep grout lines straight even where the counter is not, and caulk the joint at the countertop instead of grouting it, so the tile can move with the house and stay clean. Under-cabinet lighting and new outlets get planned before the first tile goes up, not after.

4nalaski Construction has done a number of jobs for us, kitchen, bathroom and porch all of which came out great and on schedule. It is always a pleasure to work with them, they have provided input on the projects that have been very helpful. As a project manager for many years, I always looked for contractors who worked as a team and I could trust. 4nalaski construction fits that bill Perfectly.

If you're looking for a contractor, look no further than Fornalski. Great work, great price and very professional. I don't have any complaints about the work or the people. Communication was excellent and they kept me in the loop, always asking me what I wanted or liked. Coming from an extensive customer service background that was key, no excuse for poor communication. My only regret was not calling them sooner for other projects I had.

4nalski Construction is highly recommend! I have used them for many projects and they have exceeded all my expectations! From their professionalism, to high quality craftsmanship, and everything in between, I couldn't be happier. Definitely a contractor you can trust!

Common questions

How long does a backsplash installation take?
Most kitchens take a few days: prep and layout, setting the tile, then grout, caulk and sealing once everything has cured. The exact schedule depends on the material and the square footage, and it is written into your estimate before we start.
Should the backsplash go all the way up to the ceiling?
Behind the range it often looks best running up to the hood or the ceiling, while the rest of the kitchen stops under the upper cabinets. On walls without uppers, full height tile makes a strong statement. We sketch the options with you so every stopping point looks planned, not accidental.
Can you replace just the backsplash without touching the counters?
Yes. We remove the old tile carefully, repair the wall behind it and install the new backsplash without disturbing the countertops. It is one of the fastest ways to make a kitchen feel new.
Which backsplash materials hold up best?
Glazed ceramic and porcelain are the easiest to live with. Glass wipes clean but shows every flaw in the wall behind it, so the prep matters. Marble and other natural stone look beautiful and need sealing. We walk you through what each one asks of you before you choose.
Should the backsplash go in before or after the countertop?
After. The counter goes in first, then we lay out the tile from the finished top, so the bottom row sits straight and tight against it. The joint where tile meets counter gets caulk, not grout, so it can move with the house.

Often built together

Kitchen Backsplash work usually shows up alongside these, and one crew handles all of it.
